 Recyclable paper

Paper recycling is all about fibers. Some papers like tissue paper and paper towels are made from very short, usually recycled fiber. Paper fibers cannot be recycled forever. Once they become too short, they will not bond together. Other paper fibers are coated with things like plastic or metal and are not recyclable in the tan cart. The good news is that many more papers can be recycled than can’t.

Recyclable metal

Most metal containers like cans, tins and foil pans can be recycled in the tan cart. Larger metal items can be recycled if other materials are removed. An example would be a lawn mower. The metal frame can be recycled but the plastic parts and tires must be removed. All fluids must also be drained.  The Allied Waste Recycling Depot in Corvallis accepts scrap metal or items can be taken scrap metal yards.

Recyclable plastics

Please place the the plastic items listed to the right in your tan cart. It may be tempting to put other common plastic items in the cart, but you will be sending those plastics that we do not accept to the landfill. We encourage customers to find alternatives for hard to recycle material.

Recycled motor oil can be Recycling motor oilre-refined into a base for lubricating oil or burned as fuel. Motor oil is recycled on the side in a container with a tight fitting screw on lid. Containers must not be larger than 2 gallons in size. You may put motor oil out on any of your regular service days.

Recycling Today for a Better Tomorrow: An Allied Waste Services of Corvallis Philosophy

Recycle truckToday, more than ever, people understand the need to intelligently manage waste. For a growing percentage of the population, this means looking for more opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle. Individuals in communities that we serve can recycle in a number of ways. In some cases, we offer recycling drop-off locations. In others, curbside home collection is available. Businesses can also find out about our commercial recycling capabilities available whether you have one location or hundreds.

Recycling--Material Recovery Facilities
Last year, Allied Waste/Republic Services recycled more than 3.5 million tons of material. This metal, glass, plastic and paper is equal to 23 pound for every man, woman and child in the United States. Recycling the paper products alone is equivalent to saving 23 million trees.

Click here to find out what happens to your recycling after it leaves the curb.

Locally, Allied Waste recycles more than 24,000 tons of material annually, representing more than 48 percent of all waste generated. This material was collected at residences, businesses and at our recycling depots. We are proud of that number, but continue to look for efficient and innovative ways to reduce waste.

Not only do we recycle a comprehensive list of materials at the curb and at our depots, but we participate in the Oregon e-cycles program to recycle electronics, diverting from landfills the hazardous components in these electronics.

Recycling and Composting

Allied Waste is dedicated to the concept and practice of environmental preservation by:

  • Constantly seeking new technologies and services that will not
only preserve our environment, but also provide more efficient
and economical collection, recycling and disposal of waste materials.
  • Less energy is required to create products from recycled materials than from virgin resources, both in the initial extraction of resources and in manufacturing new products. Recycling conserves valuable natural resources and saves materials that would otherwise be buried in landfills. For the environment, processing recyclables into new goods produces far less air, water and land pollution.
  • Sustaining a healthier environment and preserving our finite resources for future generations is why. Allied Waste has made a commitment to recycling and composting. Please become a part of this growing endeavor.

Allied Waste is making recycling easier than ever. Here's how:

  • The quality of our recycling is just as important as the quantity.
  • Not only do we work to increase the amount of material being recycled in our area, but we also strive to keep our recyclable materials as free of contamination as possible, conserving resources and energy.
  • We will provide you with a 65 gallon tan cart for commingled recycling and a gray bin for glass only. Just follow the examples below to correctly prepare your recyclables for pickup.

Follow the easy guidelines below when putting materials in your recycle cart:
