Pacific Region Compost Facility

The Pacific Region Compost Facility or PRC began as a wood recycling facility in the early 1990’s. By 1992 we were collecting curbside yard debris to compost in static piles.  Click here to see how the Pacific Region Compost has changed and how we collect food waste.

What’s New?
The PRC now has the first permit of its kind in Oregon and is able to compost all food waste, including meats, bones and dairy along with green feed stocks for commercial customers.

Food waste (including meat and dairy) is now being collected throughout the Willamette Valley for processing at the PRC. This material is being composted using a state-of-the-art active aeration system. Pipes pull air through the piles of compost. The air coming from the piles goes through a bio-filter before it comes in contact with the outside air. The bio-filter to absorb odor before being released to the outside air. Nearly two acres have been paved to ensure that compost the material does not have an impact on ground water.

Why Compost?
Composting organic materials and food waste helps recover soil nutrients and reduce the amount of this material in landfills. Composting is a becoming more accepted as a beneficial reuse of these materials as people become more aware of the need to reduce waste. The use of compost as a soil amendment helps retain moisture, increases nutrients, decreases the need for chemicals and helps to prevent erosion. For more information, contact us.
