Transfer Stations
Successful transfer operations require careful planning, efficient implementation, effective logistics and professional management. This philosophy has made Republic Services one of the nation’s most successful waste management firms.
Think of it as carpooling for garbage. For us, it’s all about efficiently collecting and transporting the most material in the fewest trips. We have more than 240 strategically located transfer stations which allow us to efficiently transport larger volumes with fewer trucks. Our extensive network means we use less fuel, minimize wear and tear on roads and lower overall truck emissions, allowing us to better protect the environment while increasing service efficiency.
Republic Services provides waste transfer services throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, annually receiving millions of tons of municipal and commercial waste for disposal and recycling. The Company utilizes traditional and specially designed equipment and vehicles to ensure the efficient movement of waste to final disposal locations. A wide variety of transfer stations employ push pits, compactors, enclosed compactor trailers, gravity fed compactor systems and top loading open-top trailers. Transfer stations range in size from large urban centers of 6,000 ton-per-day capacity to small rural stations processing several tons per day.
Republic Services has been designing, constructing and operating municipal waste transfer stations of various sizes and design for almost 20 years. We have transferred millions of tons of municipal and commercial solid wastes to landfills.
Landfills
Republic Services is an industry leader in designing, engineering, building, operating and monitoring of solid waste landfills. Republic Services’ landfills are a vital component of an integrated approach to solid waste management. The company owns or operates 213 landfills in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. In partnership with communities to preserve valuable resources and extend landfill capacity, Republic provides integrated service incorporating waste reduction, curbside collection, processing and marketing of recyclables, in addition to state-of-the-art landfill management. We have established a very efficient infrastructure network. Landfills are needed in a variety of areas so that all communities can be served. The last thing we want to do is to keep lots of trucks on the road all of the time driving back and forth to remote landfills. Our landfills are highly engineered and professionally managed facilities that are operated to meet all federal, state and local regulations. We invest more than $300 million at these sites every year to ensure that we can provide long-term disposal solutions that protect surrounding communities and the environment.
Along with our curbside collection routes, we offer several depots for recycling and a transfer station in Monroe. Click here for a list of our facilities.
Municipal solid waste is collected by Allied Waste of Corvallis and is taken to Coffin Butte Landfill which is just a few miles north of town. As a facility owned by Allied Waste, Coffin Butte is professionally and safely managed.
